Emmerdale villain Thomas King will reportedly make a return to the soap next month, with a new actor in the role.

Emmerdale villain Thomas King will reportedly make a shock return to the village next month after a 10-year absence.

The character - the son of the late Carl King (Tom Lister) - was last seen fleeing the Dales in April 2013, having terrorised villagers including Chas (Lucy Pargeter) in the wake of his dad's murder.

When he returns, Thomas - now aged 26 - is going by the name of Tom and according to The Sun, the role has been recast with newcomer James Chase, who takes over from Mark Flanagan.

"Tom's return is going to be explosive. He shocks his uncle Jimmy (Nick Miles) when he returns to the village and it's not clear why he's back," a source told the newspaper.

"Fans will be glued to their screens watching Tom's comeback unfold - and his presence could cause chaos.

"They will all be asking if he's as evil as his dad Carl and wondering why he's returned."

Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7.30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
