James Newman keen to represent UK at Eurovision 2021

James Newman says that he wants to represent the UK at Eurovision 2021 after this year's contest was cancelled due to coronavirus.

James Newman has outlined his desire to represent the UK at next year's Eurovision Song Contest after this year's event was cancelled due to coronavirus.

The annual contest was due to be held in Rotterdam this week but was called off due to the spread of the deadly disease, which has claimed more than 150,000 lives across Europe to date.

Newman was in line to represent the UK with his song 'My Last Breath' and under Eurovision rules, the same song is not eligible for the 2021 edition - although there is nothing to stop him being re-selected as the UK's entry.

"I've said that I want to do it," he told Radio 1. "For me, it's like I want to finish what I started."

The BBC has announced details of a full night of Eurovision-themed programming for this Saturday, the day that the final was due to take place.
