Luis Troyano - runner-up on The Great British Bake Off in 2014 - dies after a battle with oesophageal cancer.

Luis Troyano, runner-up on The Great British Bake Off in 2014, has died at the age of 48.

The graphic designer lost his battle with oesophageal cancer last week, his agent Anne Kibel announced on Twitter.

Troyano's wife Louise has set up a JustGiving page in his memory in an effort to raise funds for MacMillan Cancer Support - featuring a heartbreaking message from her husband that reads: "A massive thank you to all the amazing professionals who really did try their absolute best for me, showed me absolute compassion and gave me more time than what was seemingly possible. I thank you sincerely."

Sue Perkins, co-host of the show at the time of Troyano's appearance, tweeted: "Gutted to hear of the passing of @luistroyano He was a gentleman and I was very lucky to share a tent with him. All love to his family xxx"

Judge Paul Hollywood said: "So sad to hear the news about Luis .. he was a fantastic baker and will be missed by all in Bake Off team . . . my thoughts are with his family."

Troyano's fundraiser has already tripled its initial £1,000 target.
