Captain Tom Moore's NHS fundraiser passes £15 million mark

Captain Tom Moore's fundraising walk for the NHS raises more than £15 million.

Captain Tom Moore's fundraising walk for the NHS has now raised more than £15 million.

Earlier today the 99-year-old completed his aim of walking 100 laps of his back garden before he turns 100 later this month but has vowed to keep on walking as long as the public continue to donate.

Moore's fundraiser started off with a modest target of £1,000 but as media interest grew that total swelled and had reached £1 million by Tuesday morning.

In the last two days that figure has skyrocketed further, however, and passed an incredible £15 million at 5.45pm today thanks to donations from around 750,000 people around the world.

Speaking to BBC News after completing his 100th lap this morning, Moore said: "I never dreamt I would be involved in such an occasion as this.

"You've all got to remember that we will get through it in the end, it will all be right. For all those people finding it difficult at the moment, the sun will shine on you again and the clouds will go away."
