Roman Kemp says that he has been taken aback by the warm response to his one-off BBC Three documentary about male mental health.

Roman Kemp has revealed that he has been taken aback by the response to his one-off documentary about male mental health for BBC Three.

In the one-hour programme, Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency, the radio DJ and presenter opens up about the loss of best friend and colleague Joe Lyons to suicide in 2020, as well as his own struggles with depression since he was a teenager.

Talking to BBC Breakfast, Kemp said: "This was something that I approached the team about at BBC Three about making and everyone said to me at the time, 'Is this too soon to make for you?'

"I used this as my own therapy because Joe and I, what we did for a living, was make content that makes people laugh and I knew I wanted to do this almost as one last project together to try and make some form of difference.

"Seeing the response, seeing the fallout from it and seeing how much people are now starting a conversation and taking things from the documentary into their own lives, is completely overwhelming."

The programme is available to watch now on BBC iPlayer.
