Newcastle United reportedly join Arsenal in the race to sign Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United have reportedly joined the race to sign Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The Englishman, who netted 16 Premier League goals last season, has been linked with a move to Arsenal, but could now see more competition for his signature.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are now keen to sign Calvert-Lewin, following the successful takeover of the club by the Saudi Public Investment Fund earlier in October.

The Magpies have been linked with a whole host of potential new stars since the change of ownership and are now believed to have identified the Everton man as a prime target for the January transfer window.

With Callum Wilson battling through several ongoing injury issues, the new hierarchy are said to be in the market for another striker, although Calvert-Lewin himself remains on the sidelines, having been absent since scoring in each of the first three games of the Premier League season for the Toffees.

Since arriving from Sheffield United at the age of 19, the forward has made 176 appearances for the Merseyside outfit, netting 56 goals in that time, while he has also earned 11 England caps including a call-up to Gareth Southgate's Euro 2020 squad.
