Real Mallorca remain bottom in La Liga as a result of their 2-1 loss away at Athletic Bilbao.

Real Mallorca remain bottom of the La Liga table following their 2-1 defeat away at Athletic Bilbao this afternoon.

The home side dominated the opening exchanges and went on to break the deadlock when Aritz Aduriz headed into the net with eight minutes on the clock.

The visitors also lost a player to a red card before the break when Andreu Fontas was handed his marching orders for a late challenge on Alejandro Jose Hernandez.

Bilbao continued to control proceedings, but it wasn't until the 79th minute when they added their second goal. Markel Susaeta played in Fernando Llorente and the striker, who will join Juventus this summer, scored from close range.

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani dos Santos reduced the arrears instantly, but the away team were unable to find an equaliser.

In the closing stages Mallorca were reduced to nine men when Ximo Navarro picked up a second booking.
