Craig Shakespeare: 'Leicester City need to improve'

Shakespeare: 'Improvement is needed'

Craig Shakespeare admits that Leicester City "could do better", despite having mixed feelings about his side's performances across their first eight games of the season.

Leicester City boss Craig Shakespeare has acknowledged that his side must start turning promising displays into points if they are to climb the Premier League table.

The Foxes sit inside the relegation zone on five points from their first eight games ahead of Monday night's visit of West Bromwich Albion to the King Power Stadium.

Shakespeare admits that he has mixed thoughts regarding his side's performances to date, having already played four of last season's top six, but says one way or another Leicester must start picking up victories with a kinder run of fixtures ahead.

"The school report will say we could do better, I don't hide behind that," he told reporters. "We have had some really decent performances where we have not got the results the performances have merited. But we have also had performances where we have probably been fortunate to come away with points at times.

"We have a great opportunity now at home against West Brom on Monday to not only gather three points but to put in a performance. I see our quality and commitment every day in training. The hardest thing is sometimes translating that into the game, but the work ethic I will never doubt. I think what you want is to be more consistent.

"Whether you are playing a top-four team or whether it is the teams in and around you at the moment, you have to be competitive in all the games. We have been. But we are striving for better performances and better results. In all matches I want to get something from them. Ultimately you have to make sure you are focused on each game and the next one is West Brom. After that we can focus on Swansea."

Leicester also face Everton in the top flight before the end of October and Leeds United in the EFL Cup.
