Liverpool are drawn against Benfica in the quarter-finals of the 2021-22 Champions League.

Liverpool have been drawn against Benfica in the quarter-finals of the 2021-22 Champions League.

The Reds saw off Inter Milan 2-1 on aggregate in the last-16 stage and have been rewarded with a tie versus the Portuguese giants, who defeated Ajax to make it to the last eight.

Jurgen Klopp's side will travel to the Estadio da Luz for the first leg in the week of April 5/6 before welcoming Benfica to Anfield for the second leg in the week of April 12/13.

Should the Reds progress to the semi-finals, either Villarreal or Bayern Munich will await them in the final four, with the winners of Benfica and Liverpool's tie playing at home in the first leg.

Benfica defeated Liverpool 3-0 on aggregate in the last-16 of the 2005-06 Champions League - ending the defence of their European crown - but the Merseyside outfit progressed 5-3 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of the 2009-10 Europa League.

Liverpool and Benfica have met a total of 10 times in European competition down the years, with the Reds claiming six wins to their opponents' four.
