Danny Murphy: 'Liverpool form a concern'

Former midfielder Danny Murphy says that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be concerned about his side's recent performances.

Former midfielder Danny Murphy feels that Liverpool 'rode their luck' in their recent fixtures as they bid to remain at the top of the Premier League table.

While the Merseyside giants recorded a 1-0 win at Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon, the league leaders benefitted from a mistake from Blades goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

The performance came on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 success over Chelsea, with Jurgen Klopp's side relying on two goals from set pieces during the first half.

Despite Liverpool holding a five-point advantage, Murphy has suggested that complacency is beginning to set in within the first-team squad.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Murphy said: "He'll be a little bit disappointed with the performance [against Sheffield United], especially following Chelsea and Napoli, because although they won at Chelsea they rode their luck a little bit."

"I think he will be a bit concerned. When you are a top team and you're having the success Liverpool are having, you play sometimes in a comfort zone; what I mean by that is, you're playing Sheffield United away and you start the game a bit lackadaisical, thinking 'we're better than these' and with a 'we only have to turn up' type attitude, and then you are on the back foot. But they never went a goal behind, and they do what they need to do to get through the game.

"They got the win through a bad goalkeeping error, but the mindset has to be a bit better and sharper from Liverpool, because they have got away with it in recent weeks.

"I'm all for them winning ugly, but the overall performance in recent weeks will be concerning, because a performance, if it is bad, will generally get punished. And good performances get you wins generally."

Liverpool's next Premier League fixture sees them play host to Leicester City on Saturday.
