Mark Lawrenson: 'Jurgen Klopp understands Liverpool'

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson believes that Reds fans have taken to new manager Jurgen Klopp as he "gets" the club's ethos and history.

Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson has claimed that Reds fans have taken to new manager Jurgen Klopp as he "gets" the club's ethos and history.

The German boss saw his side beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with a brace from Philippe Coutinho and a goal from Christian Benteke helping the Reds come from behind against the Blues.

Lawrenson told BBC Sport on Sunday: "They have really taken to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. He gets the club and the history.

"It is about the progression of the side. They are pressing the opposition. They kept the ball well but didn't do too much with it for 40 minutes.

"The key to the game was the goal just before half-time, which shellshocked Chelsea. If he was your manager you would want to play for him."

Klopp has two wins and three draws as Liverpool manager so far.
