Liverpool will supposedly not receive an extra £17m from Barcelona if Philippe Coutinho plays 100 games for the club, contrary to previous reports.

Liverpool will reportedly not receive an extra payment from Barcelona if Philippe Coutinho plays 100 games for the club.

The Brazil international arrived at Camp Nou for a reported £142m in January 2018 but has endured an injury-plagued three-and-a-half years in Catalonia.

However, Coutinho currently sits on 99 games for the club and can expect to make his 100th appearance in Catalan colours during Wednesday's La Liga clash with Rayo Vallecano.

Liverpool were originally thought to be in line for a £17m windfall if Coutinho reached a century of matches for the Blaugrana, but The Mirror now claims that such a clause never existed in the first place.

The report adds that Barca still owe Liverpool money from the £4.4m-per-15-games deal included in the transfer, but their coffers will not be boosted by any extra funds as they have sold the value of that deal to a third company while cashing in.

Coutinho's 99 appearances for Barcelona have seen him amass 24 goals and 14 assists in all competitions, and he is now due to become a free agent in under two years' time.
