Midfielder Thiago Alcantara broke a Premier League record as he made his debut for Liverpool against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

New Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara broke a Premier League record as he made his debut against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

The top-flight champions signed the playmaker from Bayern Munich earlier this month for a fee in the region of £20m.

Although Jurgen Klopp opted to keep the Spaniard in reserve at Stamford Bridge, the 29-year-old was introduced at half time after Chelsea were reduced to 10 men.

Thiago proceeded to make 75 completed passes during the second half in West London, the most which have been completed by any player during a 45-minute period.

The 2020 Champions League winner also made more completed passes than any Chelsea player throughout the encounter, which saw Liverpool register a 2-0 victory.
