James: 'Liverpool should sell Salah'

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James claims that the Reds should sell Mohamed Salah this summer, as the "team play better without Salah".

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James has suggested that the Reds should sell Mohamed Salah as the team "play better without" him.

Despite a difficult season for Jurgen Klopp's side, which still finished with qualification for the Champions League, Salah was only just beaten to the Golden Boot by Harry Kane who scored 23 times, one more league goal than the Egyptian.

Salah has been linked with a move away from Anfield, as he has suggested that he is open to playing his football in Spain, amid interest from Real Madrid.

Speaking to Stadium Astro, James said: "In my eyes, he might be second in the Golden Boot running, but I think Liverpool actually play better without Salah. The opportunity for Liverpool to maybe cash in on Salah... as you say, Diogo Jota then naturally fits into that front three, Roberto Firmino gets more freedom arguably.

"Then Liverpool have a new dynamic upfront rather than what seems to be a reliance, or has been a reliance, on Salah's goals. I'd do it now. This is not about Mo Salah not being a good player, his goal record speaks for itself.

"Similar in statistics to someone like Sergio Aguero, where Pep Guardiola can look at Man City and not need Aguero. I think Liverpool's fluidity is compromised by Salah, even though he scores."

Salah has scored 125 goals and provided 47 assists in 203 appearances for Liverpool, since arriving on Merseyside in 2017.
