Loic Fery: 'Abdul Majeed Waris could leave Lorient in January'

Lorient president Loic Fery admits that Abdul Majeed Waris, who was linked with the Premier League in the summer, could leave the French club next month.

Lorient president Loic Fery has admitted that Abdul Majeed Waris could leave the French club next month.

The 25-year-old, who scored nine times in 33 appearances for Lorient during the 2016-17 campaign, had been widely tipped to leave Le FCL before the end of the summer transfer window.

Burnley and West Ham United were both strongly linked with a move, but it is understood that neither met Lorient's asking price.

Fery has revealed that he would be open to selling in the January transfer window, although the deal would have to make financial sense for the club.

"His situation is different. We aren't against a departure for Majeed Waris but it has to be a good deal for the club," Fery told Ouest France.

"We won't just accept anything. A loan? It depends on what conditions and if it can help us strengthen the squad, we'll accept it and allow him to move."

Waris has only scored once in eight appearances for his Ligue 2 club during the 2017-18 season.
