Man City equal 113-year-old English football record with Burnley thrashing

Man City equal a 113-year-old English Football record with a 5-0 win over Burnley on Saturday - their fourth win in a row by five goals or more against the Clarets.

Manchester City have become the first team in English football for 113 years to win four home games on the bounce by five goals or more against the same opponent.

Pep Guardiola's men thumped Burnley 5-0 at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with Riyad Mahrez netting a hat-trick, while Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres also helped themselves to goals against the strugglers.

The Citizens have enjoyed unparalleled success over Sean Dyche's team in recent years, and by notching up more than five goals against the Clarets once again on home soil, City have equalled an English football record that stood for 113 years.

The last Football League team to register four successive home triumphs by five goals or more against the same team were Notts County, who recorded a quartet of crushing victories - 6-1, 10-0, 7-2 and 5-0 - over Port Vale between October 1893 and February 1907.

City have now triumphed four times in a row by a 5-0 scoreline over Burnley, with three of those drubbings coming in the Premier League and one in the 2018-19 FA Cup.

Guardiola's men stretched their winning run against Burnley to seven matches across all competitions and venues on Saturday, with City scoring 28 goals and shipping just one to the Clarets in that time.
