Italy manager and ex-Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is reportedly under consideration for the Manchester United job.

Italy boss Roberto Mancini has reportedly emerged as a potential candidate for the permanent Manchester United job.

Ralf Rangnick will lead the Red Devils for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign, although his work permit will not be sorted in time for him to take charge against Arsenal on Thursday.

Rangnick will move into a consultancy role at the end of the season and is expected to have a say over who takes over on a permanent basis, with the current favourite thought to be Mauricio Pochettino.

However, The Telegraph claims that Euro 2020-winning coach Mancini - who left bitter rivals Manchester City back in 2013 - is also under consideration.

Mancini's deal with Italy does not expire until the summer of 2026, but his side are not guaranteed a place at the 2022 World Cup, and it is unclear what failure to make next year's tournament could mean for his future.

The 57-year-old could supposedly be tempted by a return to the Premier League, where he won 82 top-flight games out of 133 during his Man City days.
