Nottingham Forest reportedly miss out on signing either Keylor Navas or Sergio Rico, the two deputy goalkeepers at Paris Saint-Germain.

Nottingham Forest have reportedly missed out on signing either Keylor Navas or Sergio Rico from Paris Saint-Germain.

Having brought in Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson on loan during the summer, the England international has impressed between the sticks at the City Ground.

However, a thigh injury sustained during the East Midlands derby with Leicester City earlier in January has left Henderson on the sidelines, potentially until March.

As a result, Wayne Hennessey has been deputising for Henderson, but it has been well documented that Forest have been in the market for an alternative.

Navas has been at the top of Steve Cooper's shortlist, the 36-year-old having barely featured for PSG during the 2022-23 campaign.

While Navas is said to be interested in a switch to Forest, any deal was dependent on whether PSG were prepared to accept losing their second-choice stopper at the midway point of the campaign.

With Rico also at Parc des Princes, the Spaniard could have been moved up the pecking order or offered to Forest instead of Navas.

Nevertheless, according to the Daily Mail, neither player will be moving to the Premier League outfit on Tuesday.

Cooper is now left to assess potential alternatives with the report adding that Sampdoria stopper Emil Audero has emerged as a different option.

Unlike Navas and Rico, Audero is first choice at the struggling Serie A side and may command a bigger fee given that he still has three-and-a-half years left on his contract.

Regardless of whether a new goalkeeper arrives, it will be a busy day of incomings and outgoings at Forest with two signings on the brink of completion.

Atletico Madrid defender Felipe and Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey have already arrived at the club's facilities to finalise their respective transfers.

Forest are in a position where they must facilitate numerous departures, many of which are likely to be on loan with Steve Cook, Lewis O'Brien and Lyle Taylor expected to follow Harry Toffolo out of the club.
