Paris Saint-Germain are yet to decide whether to offer defender Sergio Ramos - who is due to become a free agent at the end of this season - a new contract.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly yet to decide whether to hand Sergio Ramos a contract extension.

The 36-year-old ended his 16-year association with Real Madrid in 2021 to sign for the French champions, but his first campaign in Paris was blighted by injuries.

Ramos played just 13 times in all competitions for PSG throughout the 2021-22 campaign, scoring two goals but failing to earn a single minute in the Champions League.

However, the former Spain international has largely managed to stay out of the treatment this term and has registered one goal and one assist from 28 appearances.

With Presnel Kimpembe and Nordi Mukiele sidelined, Ramos has often partnered Marquinhos at the back, starting all six of PSG's Champions League group-stage games and 18 in Ligue 1.

The 36-year-old has now entered the final six months of his contract with PSG, who will wave goodbye to the defender on a free transfer in the summer if nothing changes between now and June.

Back in September, PSG football advisor Luis Campos expressed his desire to agree a new contract with Ramos, telling RMC Sport: "I am very happy with Sergio Ramos' level.

"I think he is not happy with the last season of it. I know Sergio very well, I met him at Real, he is going to have a very good season. He is making progress, he is still efficient. Renewal? Why not continue."

However, a separate update from RMC Sport states that PSG are still unsure whether to offer Ramos a new contract, as the veteran Spaniard has struggled for consistency at points this season.

The report states that Les Parisiens want "guarantees" from Ramos's performances before they decide to extend his stay, and the club are currently leaning towards letting him leave for nothing this summer.

Ramos is keen to continue in Paris for a little while longer, though, and he is seen as a valuable member of the squad by Christophe Galtier, who recently appointed him as one of four vice-captains alongside Kimpembe, Kylian Mbappe and Marco Verratti.

Furthermore, the ex-Real Madrid and Sevilla man enjoys a positive relationship with Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi, and he is often trusted to give advice to the younger players in PSG's academy.

PSG are set to sign Milan Skriniar on a free transfer from Inter Milan this summer, though, so they will have a ready-made replacement if Ramos is not awarded a new contract.

The Spaniard missed Saturday's 2-1 win over Toulouse in Ligue 1 due to a groin injury, but he has returned to the squad for Wednesday's Coupe de France last-16 tie with Marseille in Le Classique.

Ramos's defensive partner Marquinhos is on the verge of signing his own contract extension, while talks are continuing with Messi, who could also leave as a free agent at the end of the season as things stand.
