Gareth Bale's future at Real Madrid could reportedly be threatened by Brexit, with the Welshman facing the possibility of losing his status as an EU player.

Should the UK and the EU be unable to reach an agreement over citizenship rights before the end of the year then Bale's status as a European player will be revoked, according to Marca.

Spanish clubs are only allowed three non-EU spots in their squad, which are currently filled by Brazilian trio Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Eder Militao, with recent arrival Reinier Jesus not yet registered.

The report from Spain notes that the Premier League will feel the effects of Brexit more than La Liga, but Bale's future at the Bernabeu is now being hit by a new wave of speculation.

The 30-year-old will not be leaving Los Blancos until at least 2022 when his contract expires, according to his agent Jonathan Barnett.

The Wales international was allegedly close to moving to the Chinese Super League last summer before Madrid pulled the plug at the final moment.
