Report: Sunderland want Burnley manager Sean Dyche to replace Dick Advocaat

Sunderland chairman Ellis Short is reportedly keen to replace Dick Advocaat with Burnley manager Sean Dyche, while Nigel Pearson is also a candidate for the job.

Sunderland are reportedly keen to replace Dick Advocaat with Burnley manager Sean Dyche.

Advocaat resigned as Black Cats manager this afternoon, while the club currently occupies 19th place in the Premier League with just three points from their first eight matches.

According to The Express, chairman Ellis Short is keen to bring Dyche to the club, after initially holding talks with the Burnley manager in the summer before Advocaat agreed to a new 12-month contract.

Dyche achieved promotion to the Premier League with the Clarets in 2014 after finishing second in the Championship, but the 44-year-old was unable to prevent his side's relegation back to the second tier last season.

The newspaper also claims that former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson is a candidate for the job, but both Sam Allardyce and Patrick Vieira have ruled themselves out of the running.

Sunderland will take on West Bromwich Albion in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday, October 17.
