Chivas USA held despite Erick Torres brace

Erick Torres scores twice as Chivas USA earn all three points on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer.

An early brace from Erick Torres has not proved enough for Chivas USA to make it back-to-back wins in Major League Soccer, with the Vancouver Whitecaps earning a draw courtesy of a last-gasp equaliser.

Chivas made a quick start on the road and were ahead inside four minutes thanks to a spectacular strike from Torres, who was afforded time and space to swivel in the air and find the corner with an acrobatic volley.

Vancouver came close to an instant response at the other end through Kenny Miller, who saw his low effort from a tight angle come back off the crossbar.

On 14 minutes Chivas extended their advantage and once again it was Torres who applied the finish, steering an assured header just inside the far post.

The hosts improved vastly in the second half but needed a touch of fortune to reduce the deficit, as Gershon Koffie netted his third of the season.

The 22-year-old took advantage of a mistake from Chivas keeper Dan Kennedy to score from around 40 yards, catching the keeper wandering out his goal to send a poor clearance back towards goal and just inside the corner.

Tommy Heinemann was thrown on by the Whitecaps in search of a late equaliser, with the hosts throwing everything at a spirited Chivas defence.

Deep into stoppage time the Caps' efforts were finally rewarded as Heinemann met Erik Hurtado's flick across goal, scrambling home a late leveller his side's resolute comeback thoroughly deserved.
