Everton reportedly interview former Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro over their vacant managerial position, following the sacking of Rafael Benitez.

Everton have interviewed Ballon d'Or-winning defender Fabio Cannavaro about the vacant managerial post, according to a report.

The Toffees are searching for a new boss after the club fired Rafael Benitez following their recent defeat against Norwich City in the Premier League.

While both Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney have been linked with the role, the Merseyside outfit are now looking at the former Italy captain as an option.

According to The Sun, Everton have now officially interviewed Cannavaro about the vacant position after Jose Mourinho ruled himself out of the running.

The 48-year-old is actively looking to return to football management following his four-year spell in charge of Guangzhou Evergrande, which he left in September.

Duncan Ferguson is currently acting as the caretaker manager, and he will be in charge on Saturday when Everton face Aston Villa in the Premier League.
