Preview: Portimonense vs. Boavista - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's Primeira Liga clash between Portimonense and Boavista, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Boavista will make the trip south from Porto to Portimao to face Portimonense in the Primeira Liga on Saturday.

The visitors made a dream start with an unlikely three points, while Portimonense were thrashed in their season opener.

Portimonense's worst fears were realised as they started the season with a shocking 5-0 defeat at Gil Vicente.

The club struggled heavily last season, being the league's lowest scorers while finishing just one place above a relegation spot.

After the 5-0 demolition, their last six league outings have now produced just one point, conceding 18 goals while netting only three.

It continues a disappointing start to the season competitively, after they were dumped out of the League Cup by second-tier Leixoes prior to their opening league encounter.

Boavista are not ideal opponents for them to face as they try to kick-start their season either, considering they are winless in seven against their upcoming opponents - losing five.

Portimonense's disastrous start is in complete contrast to Boavista's, after they started the campaign with arguably the biggest shock anywhere in Europe.

Petit's side came from behind twice to beat reigning champions Benfica 3-2 last weekend.

A barnstorming second half saw them play much of it with a man advantage after Petar Musa's red card, allowing them to twice equalise despite heroics from Benfica duo Angel Di Maria and Rafa Silva.

However, it was 10 men apiece by the time Robert Bozenik popped up with a 103rd-minute winner, sending the majority of the 21,000 fans at the Estadio do Bessa Seculo into rapture.

Away form has deserted them in 2023 though, with seven defeats from 11 on the road, so this could be a challenging task.

Boavista's only away wins this calendar year have come against recently-relegated Pacos Ferreira and a Chaves side who had three players sent off.

Team News

Portimonense are set to have a full squad available to them ahead of the visit of Boavista.

The side is largely the same as last season, but they have made two intriguing signings, with goalkeeper Vinicius Silvestre arriving from Palmeiras, and Bulgarian Sylvester Jasper signing from Fulham.

Boavista will be without attacker Bruno Lourenco after he came off the bench, scored the equaliser, and was sent off last weekend.

Vincent Sasso is also out injured for the visitors, but apart from that, Petit should have the rest of his squad available.

Like their hosts, Boavista have not made many changes to their squad, with Bruno Onyemaechi the only notable addition from Farense.

Portimonense possible starting lineup:
Vinicius Silvestre; Moura Oliveira, Pedrao, Filipe Relvas, Seck; Mauricio, Estrela Moreira, Carlinhos; Jasper, Carrillo, Rildo

Boavista possible starting lineup:
Joao Goncalves; Pedro Malheiro, Awaziem, Rodrigo Abascal, Onyemaechi; Perez, Makouta, Reisinho; Tiago Morais, Bozenik, Salvador Agra

We say: Portimonense 0-1 Boavista

After an alarming result to start the season, and not many new faces through the door, Portimonense could struggle again.

Boavista will be on cloud nine after last week's sensational result, and Bozenik's killer touch up front could be decisive, despite recent poor away form.
