Portland stage comeback to earn draw
Goals from Darlington Nagbe and Lucas Melano guide the Portland Timbers to a comeback 2-2 draw against the Houston Dynamo at Providence Park.

The Portland Timbers have come from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw in their MLS clash against the Houston Dynamo at Providence Park.

The Timbers were the first to threaten as Diego Valeri raided to the edge of the box and fired an effort at goal, but Tyler Deric was on hand to make the save.

Portland pressed forward again through Valeri who linked up with Darlington Nagbe to lift a cross to the back post for the run of Lucas Melano, but the forward's header was saved by Deric.

The Dynamo took the lead against the run of play when Will Bruin released the run of Oscar Garcia, who raided into the box and slotted his effort past Adam Kwarasey.

The visitors doubled their advantage as Bruin collected the ball down the right and from a tight angle managed to fire an effort past Kwarasey into the bottom corner.

In the second half, Houston came close to adding a third goal when Brad Davis lifted the ball into the box, but Nat Borchers guided his header just over the bar.

The Timbers got back into the match when Nagbe raced on to a ball over the top of the Houston defence, and his low effort sailed through the legs of Deric into the net.

The home side found their equaliser in the 86th minute as Valeri lifted the ball into the box and Melano directed it into the bottom corner.

However, the game ended on a sour note for Portland when Diego Chara was given a straight red card for elbowing Erick Torres, but the Timbers held out for the point.
