Coventry miss out on the chance to close the gap on League One leaders Burton Albion as Billy Sharp wins it for Sheffield United.

Coventry City missed out on a chance to close the gap on League One leaders Burton Albion as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this afternoon.

Billy Sharp's 79th-minute goal was enough for the Blades in a game that saw the visiting Coventry end with 10 men following Sam Ricketts's sending-off.

The home side had goalkeeper George Long to thank for keeping the scores level when he denied Adam Armstrong and Ruben Lameiras.

Sharp, who was introduced for Connor Sammon on 65 minutes, struck when he headed home from close range after Paul Coutts's corner, and the win moves them into the top half in League One.
