Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly left unhappy when Manchester United failed to sign a new central midfielder during the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reportedly left frustrated when Manchester United failed to sign a new central midfielder during the summer transfer window.

United made three high-profile additions before the August 31 deadline, bringing in Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, despite having a number of alternatives at their disposal, United did not improve the quality in the middle of the pitch, something which has already hindered their performances this season.

According to Manchester Evening News, a number of reasons ensured that United eventually stuck with their current crop of midfield options.

As well as it being suggested that a centre-back and winger should be prioritised, United were allegedly informed that target Eduardo Camavinga preferred to move to Real Madrid.

The report adds that the likes of Declan Rice were deemed too expensive, while no realistic offers were received for Paul Pogba.
