West Ham United are 'unlikely' to offer a contract to free agent Jesse Lingard, according to a report.

West Ham United are reportedly currently leaning towards not handing Jesse Lingard a contract.

The 30-year-old is available on a free transfer, having left Nottingham Forest at the end of June, and he has been training with the Hammers in a bid to secure a contract.

According to the Daily Mail, Lingard was again present at Rush Green on Wednesday, with the experienced attacker training with the players not involved during the international break.

The report, though, claims that West Ham are 'unlikely' to hand the former Manchester United forward a contract.

Senior figures at the London Stadium are said to be leaving the decision to Hammers boss David Moyes, who is likely to be asked about the situation during his press conference on Friday.

Lingard represented Man United between 2011 and 2022, making 232 appearances for the club, scoring 35 goals and registering 21 assists in the process.

The attacker had a successful loan spell at West Ham in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign, meanwhile, scoring nine goals and providing five assists in 16 appearances.

Lingard ultimately left Man United on a free transfer in the summer of 2022, and it was then confirmed that he had signed a one-year contract with newly-promoted Forest.

The Englishman struggled with fitness problems during his time with the Reds, though, and he only managed two goals and two assists in 20 appearances in all competitions.

Lingard is once again available on a free transfer, but West Ham are currently said to be leaning towards not bringing him back to the club.

The Hammers sold inspirational captain Declan Rice to Arsenal over the summer in a big-money deal, but they have made an impressive start to the new Premier League campaign.

Moyes's side opened their season with a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on August 12 and have since beaten Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion and Luton Town to move onto 10 points.

The London club are currently fourth in the Premier League table, two points behind leaders Manchester City ahead of Saturday's contest between the two sides.

West Ham are set to confirm their 25-man Premier League squad on Wednesday, so their stance on Lingard could potentially become clearer in the coming hours.
