Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'emerges as frontrunner for Manchester United job'

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly winning over the Manchester United board and is now considered the number one choice to become the club's next permanent manager.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reportedly emerged as Manchester United's number one choice to take over as permanent manager of the club.

Solskjaer was appointed on an interim basis until the end of the season following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month, and he has gone on to make the best start of any manager in United's history.

The Norwegian has won all six of his matches at the helm so far, most recently overcoming Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday.

The Mirror reports that chief executive Ed Woodward visited the dressing room to congratulate Solskjaer after that win and now considers the temporary boss as a leading candidate for the permanent role.

The likes of Mauricio Pochettino, Zinedine Zidane, Diego Simeone and Gareth Southgate have all been linked with the post, leaving Solskjaer as the least-experienced option on United's shortlist.

However, the former striker is popular amongst the players and the board are beginning to be won over by the team's performances, with a number of key players flourishing under Solskjaer.
