Manchester City reportedly lodge an official complaint to Liverpool after a supporter allegedly spat at a member of their backroom staff during Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Manchester City have reportedly lodged an official complaint to Liverpool after a supporter allegedly spat at a member of their backroom staff during Sunday's 2-2 draw at Anfield.

The Premier League champions came from behind twice, with Kevin De Bruyne's deflected strike cancelling out Mohamed Salah's brilliant solo effort, to rescue a point against the Reds in a pulsating draw between the two title contenders.

According to Sky Sports News, Liverpool have confirmed that they will investigate the situation following Man City's complaint and will access CCTV footage to identify the potential culprit.

Speaking to the press after the match, City manager Pep Guardiola said he did not see the incident but has since been notified and hopes it will be dealt with accordingly.

"I don't know what happened. I heard something from the crowd – something not nice to staff. But I don't know what exactly. I didn't see the images," Guardiola told Sky Sports News.

"I'm pretty sure that if it happened, what the people told me, I'm sure Liverpool will take measures about this person. Liverpool is much greater than this behaviour".

Liverpool and Man City missed the chance to climb to the top of the Premier League table, which sees Chelsea leading the way heading into the international break, one point clear of the Reds in second and two above the Citizens in third.
