Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke suggests that Erling Braut Haaland would be more suited to playing in Spain than England should he leave the club in the future.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has suggested that Erling Braut Haaland would be more suited to playing in Spain than England should he leave the club in the future.

The 21-year-old is widely expected to depart in the summer of 2022 when his £64m release clause becomes active, with the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid all interested in his services.

Watzke has ruled out a January exit for the Norway international and he is desperate to hold onto the striker next summer; however, the German has suggested that the youngster's future may be better suited in Spain.

Speaking to Bild, Watzke said: "I know that all European top clubs want him, especially Real Madrid. The big interest of Real is confirmed.

"I think someday the Spanish league would fit better to him than the English. In general we're hoping he stays."

Real Madrid are believed to be interested in recruiting both Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe ahead of the 2022-23 campaign, though the former's agent Mino Raiola has denied claims that a move to the Santiago Bernabeu for his client has already been agreed.

Haaland has scored 76 goals in just 75 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund, including 19 strikes in just 16 games this season.
